Frequently asked questions
How much yarn do I need for a sweater?
It depends on the size and yarn weight. For an adult size M sweater you need roughly 1,400 m of worsted, ~1,680 m of DK or ~2,170 m of fingering. Always add a 10–15% buffer for swatching and safety.
How do I calculate yarn when knitting held double (wool + mohair)?
Each strand travels the full length of the fabric, so you need the full yardage of each yarn, not half. Example: a size M sweater held double needs ~840 m of wool and ~840 m of mohair.
How many skeins of mohair do I need?
Lace-weight mohair (25 g = 212 m) is held alongside the wool, so you need the same length. For ~840 m you need about 4 skeins (~100 g).
Why add a yarn buffer?
For the gauge swatch, possible mistakes and differences between dye lots. 10% is the recommended standard.
