Seeknit Koshitsu interchangeable needles with a 12.5 cm tip are made by hand in Japan by Kinki Amibari, a workshop with more than 100 years of Moso bamboo behind it. The Koshitsu treatment combines high pressure and heat with a plant wax finish, and the wood ends up ultra smooth, glossy and very hard wearing.
The standard 12.5 cm length is the one you reach for on sweaters, cardigans, scarves and shawls worked in the round. The carefully polished tips suit every yarn, from chunky wool to mohair and silk, and Moso bamboo, light and warm to the touch, rests your hands over a long session.
The range now goes above 5.0 mm as well. From 5.5 mm the M4 system takes over, with a thicker thread and its own cords, for bulky yarns and projects that finish in a weekend.

What is the difference between M1.8, M2 and M4? M1.8 is the thread for fine sizes up to 3.0 mm. M2 takes over from 3.5 to 5.0 mm, and M4 starts at 5.5 mm, where the tip is thicker and needs a thread to match. Each system has its own cords.
Which cord do I need? One with the same thread as the tip: M1.8 with M1.8, M2 with M2, M4 with M4. If you want to move between systems, the Seeknit converter comes as M2 to M1.8 and as M4 to M2.
Are they suitable for delicate yarns such as mohair? Yes. The Koshitsu finish leaves a surface so smooth that it does not catch fine yarns, so they work beautifully with mohair, silk and alpaca.
Does Moso bamboo need special care? No. The Koshitsu treatment makes it resistant to moisture and wear. Keep it dry and away from direct heat, that is all.
